DÜNNBIER

AKA:
Erntebier

Pronunciation guide for English-speakers:
"duenn-beer" (pronounce the "ü" like a French "u")

Definition:
Dünnbier (literally "thin beeer") is thin, relatively low-alcohol beer (about 4.5 to 5.5% extract value and roughly 2 — 3% alcohol by volume). It falls into the Einfachbier tax category (for a defintion see Einfachbier). Traditionally, Dünnbier was brewed in the industrial north of Germany for the coal and steel workers, where they drank it all day long. The beer was provided free of charge in unlimited quantities by their empoyers. Dünnbier tastes similar to Erntebier (see Erntebier), which it resembles brew-technically. Perhaps the closest popular relative to Dünnbier is Leichtbier or Light Bier.
