Definition:
One of four German beer taxes categories. Schankbier literally means "tap" or "draft" beer. Only very few styles and brands fall into the category. Schankbiers have only a 0.2% market share. They have an extract value in the 7 to 8% range, and their alcohol by volume level tends to be between 0.5 and 2.6%. Berliner Weisse falls into this category.
